Quinoa Porridge with Poached Plums and Poppy Seeds. Quinoa raňajková kaša s varenými slivkami a makom.

If the end of August would have one name, it would be ´plums´. Beautiful, sweet, juicy, dark and fragrant plums. We always had plenty of them – my great grandmother used to have a plum tree in her back garden. We would pick the very soft plums that would have fallen on the ground. We would munch on them constantly and whatever was left went into beautiful cakes, bakes, dumplings and even into alcohol..simply said, plums always find their way how to sneak into our meals. I also made some roasted plum jam this year-I was trying to bottle a bit of summer into jars.

Besides all of the beautiful and scrumptious food filled with plums, to me, an ultimate plum combo is, when they are eaten together with poppy seeds. Ground poppy seeds. Give me bag of this stuff, some lovely ripe plums and I will be the happiest person alive.
I love the plums lightly poached,on top of my morning coconut-quinoa porridge sprinkled with nutty walnuts and plenty of ground poppy seeds. Finish it off with lemon zest and you are in for a completely different level of breakfast :)

How do you like to eat plums? :)

Quinoa Porridge with Poached Plums and Poppy Seeds

You can try to buy ground poppy seeds in Polish shops but you can easily grind your own by putting them in an old fashion mechanical meat grinder. Or pestal and mortar would work perhaps.

1 1/2 cup cooked quinoa
about 2 cups coconut milk (or 1 cup milk and 1 cup water)
pinch of sea salt
handful of walnuts
plenty of ground poppy seeds (about 4 tbs per person)
zest of 1/2 lemon
about 1/4 tsp cinnamon (optional but damn delicious!)
4 ripe plums
about 1/4 cup water
1 tsp maple syrup or more to taste

Cook your quinoa with coconut milk and pinch of sea salt until thick and creamy.
Wash your plums, destone them and cut each plums into halves and then each half into two pieces. Put them into a mall saucepan with enough water to cover the bottom of a pan. Add maple syrup and cook over a low heat until juices are released and the plums are soft.
Mix the cinnamon into the porridge. Divide into 2 bowls. Gently put your poached plums on top, drizzle over the juice as well. Sprinkle with crushed walnuts. Serve with plenty of ground poppy seeds. Finish of with lemon zest and eat with a big spoon.

Ak by sa august mal volat inaksie ako august, volala by som ho mesiac sliviek. Krasne, stavnate, sladucke, tmave a plne chuti. Take su slivky najlepsie a najchutnejsie. Vzdy sme ich mali kopec – babka zvykla mat v jej zadnej zahrade slivku. Ked slivky na strome dozreli a zacali padat kade tade po zemi, vzali sme si do ruk biele kybliky a islo sa zbierat. Jedna slivka do kyblika, 3 do ust. :)

Napriek tym vsetkym uzasnym sposobom ako si vychutnavat slivky, bude pre mna len jedna kombinacia vyherna. Slivky a mak. Nepoznam nic lepsie.

Quinoa raňajková kaša s varenými slivkami a makom

1 1/2 salky uvarenej quinoi
2 salky kokosoveho mlieka (alebo 1 salka mlieka a 1 salka vody)
stipka morskej soli
4 slivky, krasne prezrete
cca 1/4 salky vody
1 lyzicka javoroveho sirupu (alebo mnozstvo podla chuti)
cca 1/4 lyzicky mletej skorice (skvele na zvyraznenie chuti sliviek)
vela mleteho maku (asi tak 4 lyzice na osobu)
hrst vlasakov
postruhana kora z 1/2 citrona

Do mensieho hrnca si dame quinou, kokosove mlieko a stipku soli. Varime nad miernym plamenom dokym nie je kasa husta.
Medzitym si dame do mensieho kastroliku slivky, ktore sme si umyli a nakrajali na mesiaciky. Pridame k nim 1/4 salky vody alebo tolko, aby sme mali pokryte dno katroliku. Pridame javorovy sirup (alebo ine sladidlo podla chuti) a varime nad slabym ohnom, dokym slivky nezmaknu a nepustia tu uzasnu stavu.
Do uvarenej quinoi vmiesajte skoricu. Rozdelte do dvoch misiek. Na vrch slavnostne polozte teple slivky a pokvapkajte tou uzasnou stavou, v ktorej sa varili. Posypte posekanymi vlasakmi a postruhanou korou z citrona. Podavajte s poriadne velkym mnozstvom mleteho maku a vychutnajte si to vsetko velikanskou lyzicou. Dobru chut prajem :)
