Indian Turmeric Lassi. Indické Lassi s kurkumou.

When the mornings are warm and the sun starts to creep into our bedroom that´s the sign that summer came.

I have started waking up into sunny, warm and lovely mornings. And although I enjoyed having porridge for breakfast it is time to start having something that´s refreshing, immune-bosting, delicious and something that will charge me up.

On mornings like these, I love having delicious fruity smoothie topped up with granola. It´s like the most colorful and funky ´porridge´  in a bowl. Then I´ve tried making lassi and top that with granola. Even better.

Lassi is a refreshing drink that comes from India. It is originally served alongside spicy dishes to help to soothe the burn and refresh the whole body.
The Indians use yoghurt as a base, which they blend with mango, bananas, some sugar and spices. And oh, it really helps to sooth the burn.

My lassi is made with yoghurt that contains ´living bacteria´  that are also known as prebiotics. Prebiotics arenlive microorganisms that help protect our immune system and digestive health allowing the nutrients in our food to be absorbed better into our blood stream.

Turmeric is the spice os spices. It was originally used to heal joints, digestion, liver, heart, brain and skin impurities. Its red color comes from the presence of curcumin. Turmeric is known as one of the nature´s most potent remedies for age-relative degenerative diseases. It nourishes the body, cleanses the blood of toxins, it is anti-inflammatory, it aids digestion, it detoxifies the liver. Use it in cooking, baking, make a tea with it and make my lassi with it. The benefits of this super spice are endless.

Ginger has incredible immune-boosting properties, is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, it fights against sleepless nights, headaches, stomach upsets, indigestions and sickness. It is a warming spice-it warms and strengthens the digestive system. So it´s great used in teas, soups and spicy porridgy foods (as they do in India!) .

If you get hold of fresh organic ginger and organic turmeric, don´t peel it – there is a lot of goodness in the skin. Just make sure you wash it properly.

Indian Turmeric Lassi
(serves 2 or 1 generously)

1 generous cup of yoghurt with living bacteria (preferably full fat and organic-never buy fat-free yoghurt please;when the fat is taken out, important enzymes, which help to digest the food are also taken out and these versions are laden with sugar to fill out on what they are missing)
1 banana (cut into pieces and frozen)
1 tsp tahini (I use unhulled tahini, made with unhulled seeds which contain more nutrients) or 1 tbsp unhulled sesame seeds, soaked overnight, rinsed and drained – this is added for extra creaminess and yummyness
2-3 tsp ground turmeric (you could use fresh turmeric root as well)
1/2-1 tsp ground ginger (or use fresh ginger)
1/2 lemon, juice only
1/2 vanilla bean, seeds scraped
tiny pinch of cayenne pepper
bee pollen (optional)

Blend together yoghurt, banana, 2 tsp turmeric, 1/2 tsp ginger, lemon juice and vanilla seeds. Blend in cayenne pepper as well. Taste, adjust by adding more turmeric, ginger or lemon juice.
Pour into a glass or jars, sprinkle with turmeric and bee pollen.
Drink on its own or top up with your favourite granola and enjoy it as a completely nourishing breakfast.
Turmeric has got its own taste which may not suit everyone, so if you are not use to it, build up on the flavour slowly.

Ked su rana odrazu teple a slnko sa snazi dostat sa do mojej spalne cez tie najmensie strbinky pomedzi zatiahnute zavesy, je to znak, ze prislo leto.

Zacali sme sa prebudzat do krasny slnecnych a teplych ran.

A takto to chuti este viac.

A poviem vam, vedia co robia, pretoze to naozaj pomaha utisit to ´peklo´ v ustach a pomaha to nabudit cele telo.

Zakladom mojho lassi je jogurt, ktory obsahuje zive bakterie, ktore su tiez zname pod nazvom probiotika. Probiotika su zive mikroorganizmy, ktore nam podporuju imunitny sytem a zlepsuju travenie – pomahaju nam lepsie vstrebavat ziviny, ktore prijimame z nasho jedla.

2-3 lyzicky mletej kurkumy (ak mate, pouzite cerstvy koren kurkumy)
1/2-1 lyzicka mleteho zazvoru (ak mate, pouzite cerstvy koren)
stava z 1/2 citrona
vyskrabane semiacka z 1/2 vanilkove struku
malinka stipka kajanskeho korenia
vceli pel (moze byt, nemusi)

Vymixujte spolu jogurt, zamrznute bananove kusky, 2 lyzicky kurkumy, 1/2 lyzicky zazvoru, citronovu stavu a semiacka z vanilkoveho struku. Pridajte aj kajanske korenie. Ochutnajte a prisposobte si lassi podla svojej chute pridanim kurkumy, zazvoru, viac citronovej stavy.
Nalejte do pohara alebo mensich poahrov/flasticiek, posypte troskou kurkumy a par zrnieckami vcelieho pelu.
Podavajte same so slamkou v pohari alebo si lassi pripravte na ranajky, vylejte do misky a navrch si nasypte granolu a mate pred sebou kompletne vyzivne a vyborne ranajky.
Kurkuma ma chut, ktora nie kazdemu moze vyhovovat, tak vam radim aby ste zacali s malym mnozstvom kurkumy v lassi a postupne davku zvysovali. :)
