Our Spanish escape to Madrid.

After living in England for a year now, we got enough of that constant cold and wet weather. We wanted to see the sun for more than 10 minutes, we wanted to put our sunglasses on and lie in a beautiful park near lake. And that´show we booked our flight to Madrid, Spain. We bought our flight tickets, booked a hotel and within 2 week time, we arrived to beautiful and sunny Madrid.

And it was amazing. What at first was meant to be a vacation soon became an adventure with us, running around the city in order to see as much as possible. And we did. In 5 days, we walked around Madrid, from the East to the West, from the North, to the South. We were exhausted everytime we piled our bones on the bed. Exhausted but happy. :)

Madrid has a lot to offer. From tapas bars and flamenco shows on every corner, through tiny narrow streets where the best napolitanas are made, with the oldest restaurant in the world, with beautiful historical buildings and squares where you can taste the fluffiest and most delicate tortilla to beautiful parks and endless wild nights. Trust me, no one is bored in Madrid. The city is full of energy, happy people, incredible smell that drags you into every tapas bar you walk pass by. People there have got the time for everything, there are never in a rush. They order themselves a bucket filled with bottles of beer and they sit around one table, enjoying every minute of their lives over a plate of patatas bravas (potatoes in a rich and spicy tomato sauce). And that´s exactly what you do when go over there. You fell in love with the slow life, you forget about time. You are there, in a moment.

Where to eat and what to eat in Madrid.

There are many great places to go to, but I´ll share with you the best foodie finds I came across while eating my way through Madrid.

Mercado de San Miguel

One of the best tapas places. Amazing selection of olives, cheeses, tortillas, wines, fish, meat, fruit and veggies under one roof – anything you can imagine. Filled with crowds since the time they open until their closing time(which is 2am!), this place is favourite among locals as well. A little pricey, but worth the experience. The buzz of people chatting over the great food is precious.

Plaza Mayor

Find yourself a table in this picturesque square, enjoy amazing and light ´pincho di tortilla´ or glass of sangria while nibbling on olives.

Sol

Right when you get out of metro from Sol, there you´ll find the bussiest and the most favourite bakery in Madrid. Enjoy here a cup of coffee with freshly baked napolitana filled with vanilla custard. Btw, don´t even look for a place to sit here, everyone stands around!

Uvepan

Bakery, where they serve the traditional spanish breakfast. Spanish people are not really early birds, and thats how their breakfast looks like. Simple but amazing. Beautiful toast with butter and marmelade; freshly squeezed orange juice and cofee; warm ´pincho di tortilla´ in toasted baguette; napolitanas and croissants.

Chocolateria San Gines

There is no better place where you could try the traditional churros with hot chocolate. Sitting in a busy place which is opened 365 days a year, 24/7 , churros is perfect for the anytime snack attack if you want to treat yourself. My boy´s favourite.

Yerbabuena

Vegetarian restaurant where they do healthy twists on traditional spanish classics. Portions are huge, food is sourced locally and everythings tastes amazing.

Cafe el mar

Lovely cafe outside of turistic rush, where you´ll feel like as if you were home. You can order yourself beautiful organic breakfast like kamut bread, smoothies, juices with superfoods, fairtrade tea with their homemade cakes. You can do so while sitting  in a comfortable and funky sofas and enjoying that great energy of the place. They also have got a little shop inside, where you can buy anything from organic fruit and vegetables, through nut milks, nuts to healthy snacks.

PS. Very lovely staff! :)

Crucina

If you fancy trying out something different that´s not spanish (or if you are simply stuffed by eating fritattas every day), go here. Everything served here is organic, raw, filled with nuts, seeds, vegetables, amazing flavours and exciting ideas on a plate. Pricey, but if you miss vegetables while being in Madrid, this is the place where to go.

1862 Dry Bar

If you feel like having amazing cocktails, this is that place. Experienced bartenders willing to make any cocktail you´ve got on your mind with the biggest dedication in their heart. These guys do know what they are doing.

Mercado Fuencarral

3-storey market place filled with exciting food stalls. This place is packed by locals and with food that tastes heavenly.

A bolo to uzasne. Boli sme vycerpani a unaveni. Ale za to stastni. :)

Cize presne to, co robite aj vy, ked navstivite Madrid. Spomalite a trosku v zivote pribrzdite, a uzivate si kazdy jeden moment.

Sol

Hned, ked vyjdete z metra na hlavne namesti Sol, najdete tam tu najrusnejsiu a jednu z najoblubenejsich cukrarni v Madride. Vychutnajte si tu vonavu kavu s cerstvo napecenou napolitankou (kolacik naplneny vanilkovym kremom).

Uvepan

Pekaren, kde mate moznost ochutnat tradicne spanielske ranajky. Krasny kusok hrianky s maslom a marmeladou; cerstvo vystaveny pomarancovy dzus; kusok teplej spanielskej omelety vlozeny v cerstvo upecenej a opecenej bagete; napolitanky a croissanty.

Chocolateria San Gines

Mozete si tu objednat nadherne organicke ranajky ako napriklad kamut chlebik, smoothies, cerstve dzusy obohatene o super potraviny, fairtrade caje s ich domacimi kolacmi. Tieto dobroty si mozete vychutnat uvelebeni vo funky stolickach a kreslach, zatial co budete nasavt uzasnu energiu tohto miesta.

Crucina

Mercado Fuencarral
