Chocolate and Vanilla Milkshake

 

Is there something more funky than drinking milkshake with a straw every now and then? :) It´s like a childhood in a glass. And, no matter what your age is, no one will ever judge you when they´ll see you with a huge shake in your hands sipping it through retro straw. So let´s go sipping! :)

When I was in America, I remember I had a secret crush on milkshakes, especially the ones that were flavoured with oreos, chocolate and vanilla. Oh man, I really could live on those. And, that was 4 years ago. SInce than, things have changed, I have moved on from sugary loaded milkshakes into super creamy shakes that might as well be called the nutrition powerhouse. I substitute the nasty and refined white sugar with creamy banana, honey, maple syrup or dates; I sneak in creamy avocado from time to time; I also blend in spoonfuls of nut butters (tahini, almond butter and peanut butter work the best); I flavour it with homemade vanilla extract; sometimes I add an interest into the shake by layering it with mashed berries or…or I just make this amazing chocolate-kind-of-mousse which I dollop on the bottom of the glass. And when I pour an oat milk over it, I take a spoon and a straw and I go wild. I sip it, I eat it, I swirl it, I mix it, I drink it. It´s super delicious! And let me tell you, the american diners ain´t got nothing on these kind of shakes! :)

It brings me back in time, when I used to sit on a bench with this huge milkshake in my hand, not being able to reach the ground so I just kept swinging my feet in the air and as I was sipping on my milkshake a soft breeze was blowing on my face on hot summer days. I´m teling you, this shake will make you pause the time. And please, use a straw when drinking it, it´s like an amazing ritual.

I´ve used an oat milk in this recipe, which is super creamy (creamier than cow´s milk, I´d say), which has got 3 times more calcium than regular cow´s milk, is full of B vitamins and proteins. Also, did you know that oat groats make your nervous system to stay calm? They are called  ´the carriers of good mood and happiness´.

Tahini, as my next ingredient, is a paste made out of sesame seeds (I would eat this stuff all day long). Sesame seeds are an amazing source of calcium, proteins, vitamin E. And they make everything so creamy!

Bananas-the monkey bussiness! High in potassium and fibre, they help strengthen bones and protect against ulcers; they also lower risk of heart disease and stroke. To get the most antioxidants from the bananas, eat them really ripe(when brown spots appear on the skin and the flesh is soft to the touch).

Chocolate and Vanilla Milkshake

3 cups milk of your choice (I recommend using homemade oat milk, that´s the best)
1 very ripe banana (or frozen one from your freezer, no need to use ice)
2 heaping tablespoons of nut butter (tahini fits in perfectly)
generous splash of vanilla extract
2-3 tablespoons of good cacao
ice cubes (optional)

Blend together milk, banana, tahini, nut butter and vanilla extract. Taste and adjust. Take couple of spoons of the mixture and mix it together with cacao powder until a mousse like consistency. Divide the chocolate mixture between two glasses (or one only, if you´re hungry and greedy:). Pour the vanilla mixture on top of it. Serve with a straw!

Je nieco milsie a chutnejsie ako hlucne srkanie mliecneho koktejlu cez retro slamku? Je to ako detstvo v pohari. A, nezaleziac na veku, nikdy sa z vas nikto ani len srandu robit nebude, ak vas nahodou uvidi s velkym poharom uzasneho mliecneho koktejlu v ruke, ktory si vychutnavate cez staromodnu papierovu slamku. Takze, ide sa cuckať koktejly! :)

Pamatam si, ze ked som bola v Amerike, mala som naozaj velku slabost pre mliecne koktejly – hlavne tie s prichutou oreos, vanilky a cokolady. Oh clovece, naozaj mi len tie ´šejky´ stacili na prezitie. A to bolo pred 4 rokmi. Odvtedy sa veci naozaj zmenili, presla som od cukrom prepchatych koktejlov na super kremove variacie, ktore by sa kludne mohli volat ´nutricne tovarne´, tolko skveleho sa tam toho nachadza. Ten hnusny rafinovany biely cukor som nahradila kremovym bananom, medom, javorovym sirupom alebo datlami; z casu na cas dnu supnem aj avokado; taktiez ten milkshake rada rozmaznam poriadnou davkou orieskoveho masla (tahini, arasidove maslo a mandlove maslo su tie najlepsie a najchutnejsie!); vacsinou ho skraslim pridanim splechu vanilkoveho extraktu (domaceho!) a inokedy zase popucim sezonne ovocie a krasne to do pohara navrstvim..alebo, co je este lepsie, vytvorim nieco ako cokoladovy mousse, ktoreho kopcovitu lyzicu bauchnem do pohara a navrch uz len jemne nalejem vanilkove ´mlieko´..A potom uz len zostava zobrat si lyzicu, a slamku a s chutou sa pustit do maskrtenia! A poviem vam, takyto koktejl neprekona ziadna americka restika! :)

Pri cuckani takychto koktejlov, sa mi zda akoby zastal cas. Spomeniem si ako som este mala-malicka sedela na lavicke v parku, nohy mi vyseli vo vzduchu, jemny vietor mi hladil vlasy a v ruke some drzala mega velky mliecny koktejl. To bolo jedine co som potrebovala ku stastiu, velky ´sejk´, ktory som pomaly cuckala cez papierovu slamku co najpomalsie som vedela, (alebo az dokym sa mi slamka cela nerozmacala vo vode:) Takyto sejk vas donuti zastavit a vychutnat si tu detsku radost, ked ho budete pomaly srkat cez retro slamku. A prosim, bez slamky to ani nahodou neskusajte, uz by to nebolo ono! :)

Ako zaklad som pouzila ovsene mlieko, ktore je neskutocne kremove (dokonca kremovejsie ako kravske mlieko!) a ktore obsahuje viac vapnika ako to kravske, je plne vitaminov B a proteinov. A taktiez, vedeli ste, ze ovos pomaha vasmu nervovemu systemu aby sa drzal na uzde a zostal pekne pokojny? Ovos je aj ozastnym nositelom dobrej nalady.
Dalsia ingrediencia, ktorusom vopchala do pohara je tahini, maslo vyrobene zo semavoych semiacok(ja by som tahini jedla od skoreho rana do neskoreho vecera, mnam!). Sezamove semiacka su uzasnym zdrojom vapnika, proteinov, vitaminu E. Tahini vam vycari kremovu konzistenciu zo vsetkeho, kde ho pridate!
Banany, to je biznis opic. Bohate na potasium a vlakninu, pomahaju k zosilneniu kosti, su setrne k zazivaciemu traktu, znizuju riziko srdcovych ochoreni a porazky. K tomu, aby sme z bananov ziskali co najviac antioxidantov, banany by sa mali jest prezrete (to su take, na ktorych sa objavia hnede skvrny-akoby znamieka-a na dotyk je banan makky; neverili by ste kolko ludi jedava nedozrete banany a potom sa cuduju, ze maju v bruchu sarapatu).

Čokoládovo-vanilkový mliečny koktejl

3 salky mlieka podla vyberu (odporucam spravit si domace ovsene)
1 prezrety banan (alebo mrazeny banan)
2 kopcovite lyzice orieskoveho masla (tahini sa tu naozaj velmi hodi)
poriadny splech vanilkoveho extraktu
2-3 kopcovite lyzice dobreho kakaa
par kociek ladu (moze byt, nemusi)

S ponormym mixerom si spolu vymiesame mlieko, banan, orieskove maslo, vanilkovy extrakt a lad(ak pouzivame). Ochutname a podla potreby dochutime. Odoberieme si par lyzic do pohara a premiesame spolu s kakaom – mala by nam vzniknut jemnucka cokoladova pasta. Tu rozdelime na spodok 2 poharov (ten kto sa neche podelit, to navrstvi do jedneho pohara). Do poharov nalejeme vanilkove mlieko. Podavame so slamkou!
