Grissini.

I know this isn´t a cake but THE best, well known Italian snack. Grissini. Try to make it homemade, you´ll love it! Simple snack served by itself, with some dip or with parmesan shavings. So simple, so delicious!

Ps. When I was in Italy this spring, working as an au pair, I used to eat tons of these with whatever I was eating.They were so good! Now I bake this healthier, rustic-looking version. I know you can´t resist, let´s bake! :-)

 

Grissini
2 cups wholewheat flour
1 tsp sea salt
1 tsp dry yeast
1/2 cup lukewarm water
2 tsp good quality honey
1 tbls olive oil
herbs of your choice (rosemary, thyme)
Mix together honey and water, sprinkle over the yeast and let it proof.
In another bowl, mix together flour and salt, mix in the yeast mixture together with oil and herbs and kneed the dough until it forms a soft ball (10-15 minutes).
Put thw dough into a bowl and let it raise until it doubles in size.
Then cut the dough into small pieces and roll each piece into a stick.
Put on a baking tray, brush with oil, sprinkle with sea salt and bake at 220°C for about 10-15 minutes, until the become hard. Be careful not to burn them.
Enjoy with some great cheese or a delicious dip. Dig in!
